The grapes for this unique Cabernet Franc come entirely from a small, hardy vineyard, planted in 1976, located very near our nineteenth century stone winery building. Grafted onto resistant St. George rootstock, this vineyard is one of few that have so far managed to escape the ravages of the root louse Phylloxera, and is consequently among the oldest Cabernet Franc vineyards in Napa County.
The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Franc Howell Mountain (100% Cabernet Franc) gives up exuberant bramble fruits, baked raspberries, mulberries and wild blueberries with suggestions of pencil shavings, kirsch, rose hip tea and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied and with a very firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins, it has wonderful perfume and depth, finishing long and mineral laced.
