Sun Chase vineyard sits high atop the Petaluma Gap, taking in much of what the Pacific Ocean and sun have to offer. Rocky and gravelly Goudling series clay loam provide the perfect home for the four clones and vineyard blocks that make up this striking wine. The 2016 Sun Chase Vineyard Pinot Noir is loaded with character. On the nose, bright Bing cherry, dried Provençal herbs, blood orange and sandalwood are woven together. The palate is impeccably balanced, revealing layers of black cherry, sassafras, boysenberry, black tea leaf, and dried herbs through its persistent finish. 200 cases produced.
As to the reds, the 2016 Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard was mostly destemmed (there’s 30% stems) and spent 16 months in 40% new barrels. It’s another layered, rich, yet impeccably balanced wine and offers lots of red and black fruits, savory herbs, and earthy, forest floor-like nuances. Drink it over the coming decade or more.
